FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS & THE COST OF TREATMENT
“Will the hypnotist take over my mind?”No! A person cannot be hypnotised against their will and any suggestions given to the patient whilst hypnotised, which goes against their moral or ethical code, will be automatically rejected by the unconscious mind. Whilst hypnotised a person can return to normal waking consciousness, at will.
“Can anyone be hypnotised?”
Approximately 85% of people can be hypnotised. Normal intelligent people usually go into trance successfully. People who would not benefit are people suffering from Epilepsy, serious mental conditions, clinically depressed patients, or people taking mind altering drugs for Psychosis, or social drug taking. If in doubt always consult your general practitioner first.
“Will I remember what has happened whilst I was hypnotised?”
Some people remember everything that was said during hypnosis, whilst others will recall parts, sometimes the memory of what was experienced takes a few days to be recalled, and others hardly remember anything. The experience differs from person to person.
“What’s it like to be hypnotised?”
Most people report that it is a very pleasant experience, like that of a pleasant dream. Some people will say that they did not want to come back, as they were enjoying the deep relaxation so much, and most people report that after a session they go on to have a good night’s sleep, as a result of being so deeply relaxed.
“How many sessions will I need?”
That depends on the presenting condition, i.e. Stop Smoking is a one session treatment. Whereas Phobias may need approximately four sessions. Weight Control & Pain Control will usually take more than four sessions.
“How should I choose a therapist?”
Make sure that you select a therapist who is properly qualified. The British Society of Clinical Hypnosis www.bsch.org.uk governs the ethics and code of conduct of it’s members. The therapist should also be happy to answer any questions relating to their training and qualifications, and the cost of treatment.
